Support Services

Day Support Services

ABLE, Inc. Day Support Program runs from 8:00-4:00 Monday through Friday. The Day Program is located at the ABLE, Inc. administration building at 653 19th Street West. Although it is located at the ABLE, Inc. Administration building it is carried out throughout the community with work contracts, recreation/leisure activities and other activities.

Individuals are provided with hands on experience to build and maintain skills needed to maintain employment. Some of these areas include janitorial, ground maintenance, and lawn services.

People also work on contracts, which are paid out at a piece rate. These jobs include confidential shredding, manufacturing, sorting and labeling.

Other people choose to participate in the daily structured activities. People receive training and support to enhance communication skills, develop, enhance and maintain relationships, explore interests, sports, gardening, social outings, skill building, computer skills and leisure activities.


Minimally Supervised Living Arrangements (MSLA)

The MSLA setting is individuals that live in a one, two, or three bedroom townhouse or apartment that they either live by themselves or with a roommate or two. Staff is on duty on a 24-hour basis. Support is provided for meal planning/preparation, grocery shopping, laundry, household cleaning, shopping, etc., depending on each person’s individual needs.

People living in the MSLA setting have the opportunity for growth because they live in a smaller and socially integrated environment, and have more choices and flexibility.

Staff is trained in CPR and First Aid and to safely administer medications to people who need support in that area.


Individualized Supported Living Arrangement (ISLA)

Residential services that provides support to those individuals living in a home or apartment that is owned or leased by the individual. Services can include training and assistance in personal cares, budgeting, shopping, laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. The amount of support will vary depending to the individuals needs.


Family Support Services (FSS)

Family Support Services, also known as Respite Care, can be provided when the guardian or primary caregivers are home and extra support is needed while they are absent. These services can be provided in the person’s home or in another location.

The services can also be provided when the guardian or primary caregiver is home, but needs the support at predetermined times.


Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR)

ABLE, Inc. operates five group homes that are licensed as a certified health care facility. Each home serves six to eight individuals. The services at each site are individualized to each person’s needs. The primary purpose of each group home is to provide an environment that is least restrictive, but yet giving each person the support they need, also to give each person the opportunity to become a valued member of their community.

While living at an ICF/MR people receive training and support to assist in their ability to meet their needs for daily living. People are encouraged to participate in normal chores and responsibilities of maintaining a home, from household cleaning, meal preparation, laundry, etc.

Some people choose to participate in the work training program. Some choose to volunteer at different locations around the community.


Supported Living Arrangement (SLA)

Residential services that provide supports to individuals living in their own home or apartment setting. Support is provided on an intermittent basis and is typically less than 20 hours per month. Services may include budgeting, cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry, etc.


Transitional Community Living Facility (TCLF)

Community waiver group home which provides training for individuals in community integration, social, leisure, and daily living skills in a group environment. The individual is responsible to pay for room and board.


Vocational Supports

ABLE, Inc. Vocational Supports are supervised through a crew setting. The crews work at various sites around the community. People are placed in the crew setting through the day program or extended services. Participation is based upon individual need.
